Welcome Jim!

Glad your here, I noticed you live in Sin City. I went to Vegas once 18 years ago, years and years before I knew Christ. The thing that has always stuck in my mind is the pornography all over the streets and sidewalks at night.

Hey all,

I was out of town for a week, only had my phone. But since I've been in Ezra and Nehemiah for the last 10 days, I noticed some things that may help to support exactly what Chris Johnson was discussing. Of course context is crucial, but just read how wickedness was identified in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah...

Just some things to consider what God calls sin, to us, may look innocent:

Sons of God taking daughters of men
Genesis Chapter 5: Lineage of sons of God
Get 5:1 "This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;"

Chapter 6 reveals the result of sin; After time had passed:

Get 6:1-2 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

Get 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Ezra 9:2 For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.

Ezra 10:10 And Ezra the priest stood up, and said unto them, Ye have transgressed, and have taken strange wives, to increase the trespass of Israel.

Ezra 10:11 Now therefore make confession unto the LORD God of your fathers, and do his pleasure: and separate yourselves from the people of the land, and from the strange wives.

Ezra 10:18  And among the sons of the priests there were found that had taken strange wives...

Neh 7:63  And of the priests: the children of Habaiah, the children of Koz, the children of Barzillai, which took one of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite to wife, and was called after their name.

Neh 7:64  These sought their register among those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they, as polluted, put from the priesthood.

Neh 10:28 And the rest of the people, the priests, the Levites, the porters, the singers, the Nethinims, and all they that had separated themselves from the people of the lands unto the law of God, their wives, their sons, and their daughters, every one having knowledge, and having understanding;

Neh 10:29  They clave to their brethren, their nobles, and entered into a curse, and into an oath, to walk in God's law, which was given by Moses the servant of God, and to observe and do all the commandments of the LORD our Lord, and his judgments and his statutes;

Neh 10:30  And that we would not give our daughters unto the people of the land, nor take their daughters for our sons:

Neh 13:27  Shall we then hearken unto you to do all this great evil, to transgress against our God in marrying strange wives?

2 For 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Bible Discussion / Re: Is the bible a book about a chosen race??
« on: July 19, 2018, 04:32:38 AM »
Kevin,
Thanks for pointing out my error. What I meant to say was the tribe of Levi is not mentioned in Numbers Chapter 1 but it is mentioned in Rev. 7

I have little notes of strange things that caught my attention in the past that the Lord has not revealed the meaning or understanding to me yet so I haven't done anything with them.

Here is what I had noticed:

Tribes in Numbers 1:5-15
And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you:
Of the tribe
1. of Reuben  - Rev 7 (2nd)
2. Of Simeon  - Rev 7 (7th)
3. Of Judah  - Rev 7 (1st)
4. Of Issachar  - Rev 7 (9th)
5. Of Zebulun  - Rev 7 (10th)
6. Of the “children” of Joseph:  - Rev 7 (11th)
6A. of Ephraim? Is Ephraim part of Joseph and why does it say “children”?
7. of Manasseh  - Rev 7 (6th)
8. Of Benjamin  - Rev 7 (12)
9. Of Dan - Not in Rev
10. Of Asher - Rev 7 (4th)
11. Of Gad  - Rev 7 (3rd)
12. Of Naphtali  Rev 7 (5th)
Levi  - Rev 7 only (8th)

I will probably begin my study in Revelation at the beginning of September, starting from Chapter 1 and could probably use your help!

Revelation 7:4-8 Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)
4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.

Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand.

Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand.
Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand.

A while back when writing back to Wesley I wrote about the 12,000 of the children from each of the tribes of Israel being sealed and sent out in to the world to preach the kingdom.  One of the interesting points I didn't put in was that the tribe of Dan is not represented in the list.

I thought I would just put that out there in case anyone found it to be an interesting topic for further discussion.

Kevin,

This is an interesting topic;
There are several peculiarities regarding that list:

144,000 appears to represent the totality of God's people, as this discussion has eluded to: God's elect are those who have faith in Christ of all people-groups.
Without the seal of God, you are automatically taking the mark of the beast.
Your forehead (thoughts) and your hands (actions) do that of your father the devil when you have not Christ.
If you are sealed (in the Spirit) - you have an inheritance. If not, you have the mark of the beast (justified by the flesh) and you get judgement.

However, back to the list, have you noticed:
- There is no tribe of Ephraim, No tribe of Dan, and the tribe of Levi is also absent.
- Also tribe of Joseph is an interesting addition.
- There is also something peculiar about the arrangement of the list.

I believe Juda reprints Christ, the firstfruits, therefore He is listed first.

I am in the middle of an extensive study of Matthew 24 right now; once that is complete, I will be going line by line through Revelation and would love to continue this discussion at that time.

Hello Kenneth!

I just watched: Country Music Awards Festival 2018 Gospel Preach Day #1 (Part 3)
Wow! That's a tough ministry... so many distractions: the yelling and scoffers... so sad.

Luke 15:10
Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

God bless you and the brothers our there!

Chris/Jeanne,

Great comments on that video...
I used to have a dialog with that woman that shared the video; over a year ago.  She's in Germany, her husband is in the Air Force but is an atheist.
I had been warning her to be careful of the videos she watches on Youtube because most of it is lies and deceit.
Well, one day, she started to tell me she had to worship on the Sabbath, her new church building told her so.

I used as much care and meekness as I could and simple wrote this:

"So what do you think about this?
"But Jesus answered them, My Father is working until now and I am also working.  Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because HE NOT ONLY HAD BROKEN THE SABBATH, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God - John 5:17-18"

She didn't answer me for several days; so I sent one more comment;

"Hi, haha... I was not asking you a trick question. Just wanted to share with you but not by sending 20 long messages."

I genuinely wanted to establish what she thought about that verse so as to go further regarding being under the law; Paul says I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. - Gal 2:19

I sent those comments on Feb 23, 2017; haven't heard from her since.

Yes Jeanne/Hakim,

I thought it had to be a fluke or some sort of off day... I just could not believe it was a normal church service.

The last time I went there was 3 June, there was a guest "pastor" and he was telling jokes the whole time. The whole building was laughing and I was sitting there looking around at all these people.  The guy just kept telling jokes, one after another and the people kept on laughing.
It was like we were in a comedy club.  I'm not kidding, it was at least 5-6 jokes already. Not even in context of the Scripture.

Like if he was reading Luke 19:3 about Zacchaeus being little of stature, and the "pastor" just happened to be a shorter man, and said maybe he looked something like me, short and balding... something like that... I could let it slip, if that was the extent of it...

But this was like full on 5 min stories that ended with a roar of laughter.
It was like so Jack and Jill went up the hill.... and one day he says blah blah blah....
So ridiculous.

I put all my things away, my KJV Bible, my notebook, my pen, I put my backpack on and sat there and said to myself...
"If this guy tells one more joke, I'm done."

Moments later, the crowd erupts in laughter and I stand up and walk out; everybody looking at me, have not been back there since.

My fear if I had stayed in there, besides that group bringing me to unrighteous anger; is this:
Mark 9:50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

I do not want to become so casual when giving reverence to the Lord God or while sharing His precious word... that it becomes a laughing matter.
James 4:9 gives us clear COMMANDMENTS:
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

James commands us that sin is no laughing matter.
There is a time and a place for the appropriate emotional response. We do not laugh at sin, rather we are to mourn and feel heaviness over it.

Ecc 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

Calling sinners to repentance is not the time laugh.

Luke 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

Jesus then gives us the antithesis of that statement - There are woes!!!

Luke 6:25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

I used to watch movies full of cursing and inappropriate behavior and it used to be hilarious to me;
To be closer to God; we must recognize sin for what it is - Death.
What happens when there is a death? People mourn.
We need to turn our view of sin to align with God's view of sin.
We should not deal with sin in a trivial way or act as if there is no consequences.

So that church building has a room full of guests that are lost sinners and somehow believe faith in Jesus Christ comes through laughter, I don't.
And I'm not going back, I will not tolerate rolling laughter during a solemn time.

But God works all things for His good, and so the results of that experience led me here.

Chris

Thanks for the feedback,

yeah Hakim, I like that way that sounds.

The place near me...It's called a "Bible Baptist Church"
I honestly didn't know there were denominations within denominations.

Anyway,
Every Sunday, (they use red bags to collect) They pass the bags, sometimes 3-4 times a day.

My wife and kids have been attending this church while I was in Korea.
So once I arrived here end of April, I started to attend and was evaluating their doctrines for a month to see if I was going to become a member.

After Sunday school, they pass the red bags around to give to the poor.  They want the people to put their names on the slips.
Then the preacher will talk about how the church doesn't give and make them feel bad and say its commanded of God
Then they bring the bags out and want your names on the slip.
Then splash around the milk of the Word for 30 mins. Tells everybody to stand with all eyes closed and talks for 15 mins about coming to the Altar.
Sometimes the preacher will randomly call the ushers to bring the bags out in the middle of his sermon.

Then...
Around 6pm, there is an evening service and the bags are passed around again.
(I'm already stewing by this point), after the service, the preacher tells the congregation to stay in their seats.
He starts talking about how they want to build more rooms in the back and they need money to complete the 2nd floor.

He says nobody is going anywhere until we have the money.
He calls a guy from the front row up to be the book keeper.
Then he says we need... $800.
He takes out his wallet and pulls out $50 and gives it to the book keeper.
Then he says we need $750... he walks over to the left side of the room and stand there and stares at the people in that section.
He says more verses out of context about robbing God and Gods blessings are waiting for you.
He looks and see's a hand up and asks the guy how much? The guy says $50...
The preacher looks at the book keeper and says, Ok! Amen, Robert will give $50.... only $700 to go... who is going to be faithful?
Anybody else a faithful disciple of Christ over here... Who will be going home today comfortable while they know they have robbed God?

On and on this goes... until he extorts his $800.

I couldn't believe it!

I mean, you would think this pastor had never read Matthew 6 before.
All I could think was this man has made this building a house of merchandise.  He loves standing in the synagogue to be seen of men.

In light of some of the comments between Ruth and I recently;
I came across this video the other day...

It's sad what this boy is being led into. I was already opposed to it when I saw it was a child.
1 Ti 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

But then after watching the whole thing... it gets worse.  :-\
God wants the money.

FYI, it's in Facebook at the link below:

Thanks for the welcome Kevin,

I actually had one last thing to add to my previous comment; concerning the preacher who said, "God wants to bless you - All He requires it that you Give (us your money)"
I often reflect on what the antithesis to a statement implies... in this case; if that statement were true...

What he is really saying is;

"If you do not give this church building your money, God is going to curse you!"
(The wrath of God/enmity of God/or cursing of God being the opposite of His blessing)

You guys think I'm in my right mind with this?

Hello again Ruth,

What a blessing how even when you were in the midst of those teachings, something didn't seem right to you.

It's wonderful that you are here seeking Truth.

Yes, i understand about bringing Scripture to the leaders.
I mentioned Independent Fundamental Baptist, well, there are some things done there, that are not Scriptural and so as you can see, I am here reaching out to find others like me. They will not listen to Scripture because most of them; as Christopher Johnson rightly pointed out, they received training from their Seminary school and the professors told them a philosophy by which to think.  As young students, they disagreed or did not see Scripture the same as the school, they would not get passing grades.  So once indoctrinated, their minds are not able to see the truth any longer.

1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;

To name a few issues I have with the church buildings I've attended: The emphasis on "the altar" ie. The pastors saying this at the end of each sermon:

"If there's ever been a time when you have never trusted in Jesus, every head down, every eye shut... nobodies looking around... If there's ever been a time; if your standing here today and have not believed in Jesus... I want you to come up to the Altar and ask Jesus into your heart."

Every time I hear this... I'm saddened.
#1 Christopher Johnson's article on Repentance identifies that the pastors of these churches... almost unanimously never emphasis repentance... It's just speak with your mouth and your in heaven. (contrary to Christs own teachings; "I tell you nay, unless you repent, ye shall likewise perish - Luke 13.
#2 There is no biblical mandate for those in Christ to come forward to an 'Altar'... The altar (the place where the sacrifices were made) was destroyed when the Temple and Jerusalem were destroyed in the first century.
Christ was our sacrifice. Our bodies are now the temple of the living God;

1 Pet 1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation (life style).

But also, the heavy emphasis on Tithing and Mal 3:10 and First fruits offerings.
Something I heard 3 weeks ago, from my local church building that caused me to depart from them was the pastor said this:
"God wants to Bless you!!! And you know... the only thing He requires is that you Give!!! God loves a cheerful giver!!!"

That is a lie.  And it angers me to hear it.  God's blessings are not measured how much money we give a church building.

From what I can see from Scripture: God's blessing is Salvation.

Gal 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

I thing about it like this; I love my girls, if they were to do something they should not; they will not cease to be my children.  They will not lose the blessing of having a loving home to stay in, I will still provide them food, clothing, shelter.
But they will be chastened for disobedience.

Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

I'm no expert on Pentecostals, I've shared with you the extend of my dealings.  Sounds like you would be the resident expert of the perversions of they teachings.  You are not alone on the leaders of church buildings ignoring your calls to abide in God's Word and falling on deaf ears though.

Great talking to you!

Hi Ruth,

I don't mind the question at all.  Several months after I arrived in Korea, I met a young man that sort of worked for me.  I was the equivalent of a manager and one of my supervisors had a guy that worked for him.  Well, this young man, named Daniel, heard me talking to the team one day;  It was around Aug 2016, so it was about 16 months after I heard heard the Word of God for the first time.

So this particular day when I had pulled everybody in and told them that I would not put up with dishonesty and basically gave my expectations for how professionals should act.  I was using terms that unbelievers don't use; I used words like debauchery and wickedness when I described events they could get into during their off time and ruin their careers.

Well, this caught the ear of Daniel.  He began to visit me in my office and I got excited to talk about Jesus and Scripture.  After a few weeks, he offered to help me with some vehicle repairs.  The garage was about a 2-hour drive from where we were located.

On the way up, I had some sermons ready, download from online preachers, I was still very young in faith, so I listened to a lot of audio sermons.
Anyway, after the sermon, he began to dispute some of the things he heard, and we had some discussion.

I remember one specific question on the ride up, he said, do you think your pastor (the pastor of the Fundamental Baptist Church I was currently attending), will Baptize me in the name of Jesus?

I was a bit confused.. I said, "I think so, I mean, how else would he do it?"
He said, "because in Acts, the Apostles only baptized in the name of JESUS ONLY, not Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (or Ghost)"

I had never even considered this doctrine, or studied the matter so I had no opinion, other than what Jesus Christ said in Matthew 28:19:
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost

There was some other small talk, we got to the other base and fixed the car, eat lunch, etc.
Then proceeded on the way home later that afternoon.

After driving about 30 mins, I asked if he wanted to stop and get some coffee at this nice island rest stop in the middle of a bridge (in Korea).
He said sure. So after we get the coffee, we're sitting at a bench and I said something to this effect;

"It would be amazing when Christ returns and we get glorified bodies... I really hate sin, in that day when we put off corruptible and put on incorruptible will be such a glorious day, because I don't want to ever have the inclination of sin in my flesh.  As much as I long for that day, I pray He will allow me to return to my wife and kids so I can teach my children in the way they should go, so they will not depart.  I guess thats my only want for now; that my family will be saved"

His eyes got really BIG!  He said are you serious? You are not afraid of the Lords return?

I said, "I'm not afraid for me, but I'm afraid for my family.  I don't know if they are saved."

He said, "But you are not even saved! You told me on the way up, that you don't speak in tongues! So if Jesus comes back right now, you will be burning in hell!"

Well, I was by no means any sort of expert in the definition of tongues, Whether it was for today's Christians or not?, if the gifts were still applicable?, if they faded away as the Apostolic period ceased? However, I did know a few things...

He continued to reference The Acts of the Apostles, and 1 Cor 14 continuously... from that comment about Baptism, to the comment about Pentecost and the tongues that descended on the upper room.

I pointed out that Paul opposes the way Pentecostals operate today in their church buildings... I showed him in Acts 2, the "tongues" were real earthly languages.  I mean, LOOK! The Bible lists the tongues they were speaking! I opened 1 Cor 14 and read to him slowly that its two, no more than three and not without an interpreter.  If there is no interpreter, then they are to remain silent.  I pointed out that all things must be done orderly.  That Paul says without an interpreter, if an unbeliever came into the building, they would say you all are like barbarians, Scripture says, tongues ARE A SIGN FOR UNBELIEVERS, I already believe.
I pointed out Paul says tongues is to edify the church, if they don't understand your speech, then its a selfish display of a gift. If it is in an unknown language, the church cannot say Amen.  I told him we have the Word of God, there is no new revelation, etc.

Secondly, and most importantly, I said, but the book/chapter your are quoting from is concerning spiritual gifts, not salvation.

He said, tongues is the evidence of salvation.

I don't know, maybe it was, but Ephesians 2:8-10, said I am saved through faith, the gift of God. Created unto good works.

All I can say, is I used to live with no regard to Jesus Christ, now I seek to allow Him to be Glorified through me. The preaching of the Word of Truth is foolishness to those that perish... I love the Word of God.
The Bible says, the Spirit gives the gifts, to some he gives prophecy, to some he gives interpretation, to some tongues.  If I don't speak in (an unknown language), it's because God didn't gift me with that.  But the subject of salvation should not be confused with the subject of gifts.

The conversation was very long... but in the end, he was unrelenting and stood firmly that without "tongues" I was doomed to eternal fire.

It's interesting, most people miss the hyperbole in Paul's Epistles, for example 1Cor13:1
Though I speak with tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass or a tinkling cymbal.

Look at the next verse:
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand ALL mysteries, and ALL knowledge;

Do you think Paul has "ALL Understanding? and ALL knowledge?"
That would make him God wouldn't it? The same logic can be applied to verse 1.

Charasmatics claim they are speaking an "angelic language".
Show me in the Bible where the angels spoke and man could not understand.  I haven't found it. Look at Luke 1:28 for an example,
"And the angel came in unto her, and said, "Hail, thou are highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women."

When angels speak in Scripture, it is understandable.

In conclusion to your question, I was never influenced by charismatics but I was introduced to them, by way of a young man named Daniel that told me I required the gift of tongues to be saved.

According to Daniel, Even if I am following the commandments of The Lord Jesus Christ, I am not saved.

My wife is from the Philippines, her native tongue is Tagalog.
If she had the biblical "gift of tongues", she could walk into a Chinese village and speak perfect Cantonese or Mandarine (unknown tongues for her).
Not the gibberish you typically hear from the Pentecostal churches around the world.

I believe tongues (the unbiblical tongues seen in todays church buildings) are also spoken around the world by many shamans and tribes people (who are not of God), therefore, I reject that doctrine as heresy.

Thanks for asking!

Chris

Good morning All,

We are very blessed that the Lord Jesus Christ showed compassion on us!

Jeanne,
Sorry about the novel... But there was more that had to be said, If I'm going to tell it, I want to tell it all.

Also, I did not open up any of the other testimonies, prior to writing my own here; I did not want to be swayed by doing what everybody else does. So my only limiting factor was the count limit, which I was unaware of until I had completed the testimony offline and was ready to cut/paste.

Thanks to all who have taken the time to read Christ's Testimony in our lives.  I also look forwarding to fellowship with His saints.

Chris
