General Discussion / Re: Peter Ruckman
« on: March 10, 2018, 10:35:36 AM »
I've had a number of requests recently to start doing exposes on false preachers. I'll be blunt, I'm probably not going to do much of any of those requested. The reason is very simple.

When people write me, I think they assume that I am intimately familiar with all these people. I'm not. I didn't grow up learning from hardly any of them. So what that means is I have to spend hundreds of hours studying their materials, which means I have to spend hundreds of hours studying things that are against Scripture instead of studying Scripture. It's a lot of stress, and everyone thinks it's great when it's done, but they don't have a clue what I had to work on to get to that point.

It's hard on me because I have to have my mind filled with their false doctrines to that extent. But that kind of stuff is requested more than the Biblical teachings because very few people read/listen to the Bible teachings. It should be food for thought for us to question why that is.

However, feel free to continue your discussions on Ruckman as you choose. I don't want to change the topic of the thread.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Coming from Michigan

I think the problem is that you didn't tell us anything in your introduction. There's nothing there we can understand who you are and where you're coming from, as stated here:

Here's an example of a well-written introduction. She just posted it today:

you can't deny there are many churchians who can take literally anything and make it connect to the Devil somehow and there are a few times where it seems you hover towards that category
You are very correct. Understanding that perspective, it's reasonable why you would think that most people do that... because most people do that.  :P I'm not saying I've never been guilty of doing that, but for the Lord Jesus Christ, I do my best not to think that way or teach that way.

I would say a good example would be like Jack Hyles or Steven Anderson. They would be good examples of cults that claim to be of Christ and are not, and they are also called cults by many sources because they are cults.

Jeanne, he did make a post, but he didn't provide hardly any information whatsoever. The problem is that all of you who are regulars on this forum set that example for everyone else by "ho-humming it" since you've been here for a long time. They're just following suit.

As for Gerald, he's setting a strawman and attacking it, which a logical fallacy called a "strawman" or in some instances, a "false accusation." Let's read what he said:

Quote
Now don't take this the wrong way in me justifying the Wiccan use of the Pentagram. I'm just saying when a kid draws one of these mathematical shapes in kindergarten, it doesn't mean they're practicing witchcraft.

Now, did anyone hear me at any time make the claim that all Pentagram shapes are evil, or that if a child draws one, they are a witch? Everything I said was under the context of witchcraft, unless you have some evidence to present concerning your accusation, please don't falsely accuse.

I'm glad. The way you wrote it sounded like you were reading from someone else. I'm very glad you were going through it verse by verse, and I hope that was helpful. Let me know if there's any way I can help further.

In the sticky post on this thread, it says the following:
http://www.creationliberty.com/forum/index.php?topic=20.0
Please don't just say "Hello." Keep in mind that we don't know who you are, and so writing a bit about yourself, your beliefs, how you found this site, why you joined, etc; all those types of details will help us get to know you a bit better, and we hope you enjoy conversing with born again Christians here.

If you were following the example of others who had already posted here, I apologize. They should have also done this if they made a post, but I overlooked it because they were simply re-making their accounts after we lost or old forum recently. Sadly, your post didn't hardly tell us anything, so we still don't know who we're talking with.  :(

Bible Discussion / Re: Baptize for the dead??
« on: February 27, 2018, 08:37:45 AM »
I can't tell if you're bringing this up because you're reading and studying the chapter and had a question, or if you saw this verse that someone cherry-picked and you immediately came here to ask about it instead of studying it first? Your post seems to indicate the latter, and thus, my answer is to go back to the chapter and read is slowly, making sure you understand it all before proceeding.

But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.
-1Co 15:13-15

So what is the subject matter here? He is addressing those who would teach that Christ did not rise from the dead, or that there was no man who was raised from the dead by Christ.

If we cherry-pick verse 15 in willful ignorance, then we can conclude that the apostles are false witnesses and false teachers. That's absurd, and that's taken out of context. He's saying IF Christ was not raised from the dead, then we would all be false witnesses, but Christ IS raised from the dead, therefore, the apostles are true witnesses, and we speak the truth in Christ.

Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
-1Co 15:29

Thus, IF Christ was not raised from the dead, then why are people baptized at all? Why be baptized for the dead? That would make no sense. However, because Christ IS raised from the dead, therefore, the doctrine of baptism is sure.

It seems no one raises a point of contention on the next verse, but Paul continues this line of questioning in the next verse:

And why stand we in jeopardy every hour?
-1Co 15:30

Again, IF Christ was not raised from the dead, why do the apostles put their lives at risk every hour of every day? It would not make sense to do so. However, because Christ IS raised from the dead, therefore, their jeopardy [exposure to hazard, death, and peril] is not only logical, but sound in the faith.

In short, he's asking these questions to test the reasoning processes of those who are reading, and that those who have faith in Christ should not question the resurrection of the dead, but believe soundly on Him.

On the positive side here, when the results of our last census came out a number of years back there was a much increased percentage of the population who identified as Christian but not affiliated with any "denomination".
Agreed. Christians ought to agree with us on such matters because the New Testament does NOT mention denominations for the church in any shape or form.

The old video I had of this had two problems.
1. It was on our old YT channel that we no longer use.
2. The audio had been cut, and it also messed up the video sync, as you can probably see in most YT videos that have this clip.
The following clip was video taped with a video camera in front of a TV set, so you can listen to the entire two minute exchange between them. I hope that's helpful to all of you.
